How to find the right subreddits

Most founders start with the obvious communities — r/startups, r/Entrepreneur — and wonder why nobody replies. Those subreddits are full of other founders, not buyers. The subreddits that matter are the ones where people describe your problem in their own words.

Look problem-first. Instead of searching for your product type, search for the sentence someone writes when they're stuck: “is there a tool for…”, “how do you handle…”, “any alternative to…”. The subreddits where those sentences keep appearing are your communities, whatever their name is.

Why subreddits matter for your first customers

Before you have traffic, ads, or a list, communities are the only place where demand is already visible. Someone posting “I've tried three tools and none of them do X” is a customer describing their buying criteria in public.

• Read before you write. Every subreddit has its own tolerance for self-promotion.
• Help first, pitch never. Mention your product only when it genuinely fits — and say it's yours.
• Go where the problem is, not where your peers are.
